Next year in 2006 it will be 400 years ago that the
little Dutch ship Duyfken landed at Cape York Peninsula.
from that moment on, Australia, or the Southland as it was known
then, was added to the world map and exploration began.
It also signalled the beginning of a 400 year relationship
with Netherlands, a tiny country, half the size of Tasmania with
a current population of about 15 million.
The Netherlands will be celebrating this 400 year
friendship and students and schools are invited to participate
with a Dutch school .

In amper twee eeuwen tijd heeft Australië
een culturele reuzensprong gemaakt: van een land bevroren in
het stenen tijdperk naar een welvarende, rijke westerse natie.

Volgend jaar in 2006 is het 400 jaar geleden dat het
kleine VOC scheepje Duyfken Australië aandeed. Vanaf
dat moment werd het Zuytland aan de wereldkaart toegevoegt en
begon men het land te verkennen.
Het was tevens de aanvang van een 400 jaar vriendschap
met een land waar Nederland 240 keer in past, met een bevolking
van zo'n 18 millioen.
Australië viert deze 400 jarige vriendschap en
studenten en scholen kunnen meedoen met een Australiasche school.
